Our website's free SMS service was put to a complete stop this morning when two of our modems encountered an error. I was working remotely so I checked the server using remote desktop connection. At first I thought "this might be a problem with the database connection or probably a hardware issue". But, when I did the initial troubleshoot, I found no clue on what caused the problem - error logs show nothing at all.
Then it occurred to me, "could it be that the network provider blocked the SIM from sending messages?". I was still kind of laughing at myself to think of it as a possible issue since I enrolled these SIM cards on their "unlimited" text promos which should last for 5 days and its not even the 3rd day yet.
To my disbelief, I was there reading a text message from Globe that reads: "Your number has been detected to be sending a high volume of text messages. As a precaution, your Unlitxt / Supertxt registration is temporarily blocked." then I went ahead and thought Smart would send the same message, but there was none. However, when I try to send a text message, it would fail even if there was still 500 pesos worth of credit - no doubt my number was banned from sending any text messages. I called their customer service and that's when I confirmed that my number was banned due to high volume of SMS messages being sent.
Unlimited TEXT promos ARE NOT TRUE and there is not even any "fine print" that state the amount of text messages allowed to be sent while your number is still enrolled in their so called "UNLIMITED" promo.
How do we define "unlimited" then?
In the dictionaries: Not limited; having no bounds; boundless;Undefined; indefinite; not bounded by proper exceptions; as, unlimited terms.
There is no other meaning for the word "Unlimited" that pertains to something that has a "LIMIT".
For now, we are still negotiating with their representatives on the limit of the text messages allowed every 24 hours.
